Dr. A Show Tonight!

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live
Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at 9pm ET (0100 UTC)

The title of this week's show is "Random Thoughts." Why? Who knows? I realize that on show night - this is probably the most popular night for the fall TV show premieres. So, I'm asking people to click onto my show live, put it on mute, and then feel free to watch your fave tv show premiere - hehe.

Topics I'll be talking about on the show will include my preparations for the Medblogger Track at BlogWorld and New Media Expo in just three weeks in Las Vegas. There was also a recent podcast which I was listening to that stopped broadcasting. One of the reasons for stopping was not having any more fun making the podcast - basically feeling a little burnout. I'll talk about that. I'll also mention some interesting news stories from the past week - including an article from this week's Time magazine entitled, "Are Med Students Tweets Breaching Patient Privacy?"

If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face on the webcam. In addition, you can call into the show to say hello. Can't catch us live? That's ok. You can listen anytime after the show as it is saved as a podcast so you can listen later.

For first time Blog Talk Radio listeners:
*Although it is not required to listen to the show, I encourage you to register on the BlogTalkRadio site prior to the show. I think it will make the process easier.

*To get to my show site, click here. As show time gets closer, keep hitting "refresh" on your browser until you see the "Play/Chat" button. Then, of course, press the "Play/Chat" button.

Show 118 Preview

With it being the fall season TV premiere week, I know a lot of people will be watching their favorite Thursday night shows. That being said, I still want to invite you to this week's Doctor Anonymous Show. Topics this week will include serious and not-so-serious news stories.

I'll also mention some thing I'm doing for the upcoming BlogWorld and New Media Expo which is coming up in about three weeks. Also, topics of "blog burnout" and "podfading" have come up this week among some people that I know - we'll talk about that as well. And, who knows what else will come up?

So, join me for Show 118 of The Doctor Anonymous Show which will be Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. If you cannot catch my show live, that's ok. You can always listen to the show anytime on the archived podcast. Of course, if you join me live, you can participate in the chat room and even see me on the webcam. Also check out the video post above. See you for the show!

Show 117 Wrap-up

I gotta tell ya, last night's show was very fun to do. As always you can listen on the player above. Or, you can click here to download and listen anytime. The opening bumper music is from a song I heard earlier in the day. A song that I haven't heard for a long time. I'm not going to spoil it by writing it down - sheesh, you'll have to listen to the very beginning of the show.

I covered some serious and not-so-serious news stories on the show last night. In the area of health/medicine, I shared stories of how the FDA this week approved the H1N1 vaccine which is a step closer to the eventual distribution of the immunization. Also talked about the latest in the health care reform debate from Washington.

In addition to these topics, I talked about the upcoming BlogWorld and New Media Expo, the Kayne/Taylor episode at the VMAs (including sound clips), and some other news stories. Our good friend Mother Jones RN called in to voice her opinion about the VMA episode. It's hard to believe that an hour went by so quickly. Hope you enjoy the show!

Show 116 Wrap-up

I know I'm really late getting this post up, but I had a great time with Show 116 last week. It was opening night for the 2009 NFL season. And, I figured that a lot of people were probably watching the game and not going to be able to tune into the show. Boy, was I wrong. Thanks to everyone who tuned into the show that night.

However, with the NFL game going on during my show, and me not really having a lot of material (HA!), I only went 30 minutes - which apparently surprised some people because some people tuned into the show at near the 30 minute point and wondered why the show was ending. Oh well.

As always, you can listen to the show in the player above. Or, you can download the show by clicking here and listening to the show anytime. Topics include news about seasonal flu, H1N1 flu, California cougar convention, 9/9/09, and a guy's final wish of being buried in his car. Enjoy the show!

Are you sick and tired of all the 09/09/09 talk from yesterday? Well, this is the show for you this week. I invite you to check out The Doctor Anonymous Show 116 which will be tonight. I'll be talking about some news stories from this week which can be anything from medicine, health, technology, entertainment - or any other topic that I come up with. (Also check out the video post above)

Yes, I do realize that tonight is the opening night for the National Football League. And, I will be watching the football season this season because I am entered in a fantasy football league this season. My first game will be against my good friend Kimmie, so this week will be especially fun. Want to track my team? I know you don't, but if you do, just click here and check out our league. Yes, my team is called the Pantless Freaks - hehe.

Wrap-up of Show 114: Columbus Groove

Thanks so much to Brandice Schnabel for being a guest on Doctor Anonymous Show 114 last week. Her self-published book is entitled "Columbus Groove." We had a great conversation starting out with her love of writing poetry and her dream of publishing her own collection of poetry.

I have always been curious about how one would go about self-publishing your own work. In this interview, Brandice goes into that and offers advice to those who are thinking about going this route. We also talked about some of the process she goes through in the creation of a poem - and how that's more difficult than doing something like a video post (which you'll see above).

The day after this interview, I got to see Brandice at her book signing which took place at the latest edition of the Canton First Friday event. I got my autographed copy of the book, got to meet her husband and some of her friends, and all of us went out after the event to grab some dinner. Great fun!

Thanks to all of you who were able to catch the interview live or on the archives. You can listen to the interview in the player above. Or, if you like, as always, you can click here, download the interview, and listen anytime. I also encourage you to check out Brandice's personal blog to learn more about her. Thanks again!

Show 115 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who were able to check out Doctor Anonymous Show 115 on Saturday. I talked about a news story that is interesting locally here - namely, the release from federal prison of former Congressman James Traficant. Interestingly enough, as of this posting, the article in our local newspaper has 1972 comments on the article describing his release.

Just yesterday, he gave his first public speech, which can be seen above and was written about in our local newspaper. Still a polarizing figure, but it still seems as if this guy still has a lot of supporters around - and would like him to run again for public office. We'll see if his supporters follow him to the ballot box.

The rest of Show 115 has me talking about a number of other current event news stories from the week. It was only a 45 minute show, as I really started to run out of gas near the end, and I didn't want to drag things out any further. You can listen to the show above in the player. Or, as always, you can click here, download the show, and listen to it anytime. Hope you're having a great Labor Day weekend!

Dr. A Show 114: Columbus Groove

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 9:30pm ET (Note time change)

This week, I'm very happy to welcome author Brandice Schnabel to The Doctor Anonymous Show. She and I met through Podcamp Ohio and she's been on the show before. Little did I know that she has been "secretly" putting together a collection of poetry for publication. On August 22nd, she announced on her blog that the project/book is called "Columbus Groove," and we'll be talking about it on the show this week.

In this self-reflective post, she shared this with her blog readers:

I’ve really been hesitant to talk much about the book, because I’ve let silly insecurities get the best of me up until a week or so ago. Telling people you’re self-publishing can open you up for a long of ignorant and hurtful criticism, usually by fellow writers who want to accuse you of cutting corners or simply not writing anything good enough to be published traditionally. I’ve been lucky enough not to field those comments since announcing this project to writing friends, but I’ve heard the comments all too often before becoming a self-publisher myself.
If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face on the webcam. (Although I've had problems with the webcam lately) In addition, you can call into the show to say hello. Can't catch us live? That's ok. You can listen anytime after the show as it is saved as a podcast so you can listen later.

Show 114 Preview: Columbus Groove

We have a great show planned for you this week on The Doctor Anonymous Show. Author Brandice Schnabel will be joining us to talk about her new book called "Columbus Groove." I first met Brandice while working on Podcamp Ohio 2008 planning. and she's been on the show in the past. In addition to her blog/website, this is how the author describes herself:
Brandice Schnabel, MSW, LSW is a clinical social worker living in Ohio with her husband. She earned a BA in Sociology from Mount Union College, where her poetry was published in the college literary magazine, The Calliope. She earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Akron and currently works on an inpatient psychiatric unit when she’s not scratching her latest creative itch.
I didn't even know she was putting a book together. It seems as if on August 22nd, 2009, she revealed this project on her blog in a post called "Super No-Longer-Secret Project." On the Columbus Groove website, this is how the author describes her book.
Columbus Groove is a collection of poems that reflect the journey many of us take to find what we need in another person. Whether we’re out in a sea storm, crashing into rocks and lovers, or blindly searching the coastline for a place to build a safe colony, free of pirates and far from heartbreakers, we are all explorers at some point, searching for love and discovering our groove along the way.
So, I hope that you can join us for Show 114 on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 9:30pm Eastern Time (note the time change for the show) on BlogTalkRadio. If you are new to the show, there is a live, interactive chatroom. a webcam with me (when the cam is working), and the opportunity to call into the show to talk to the author. Hope to see you for the show!

Show 113 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who were able to check out the Saturday Night Show 113. It was a little tough in that I was talking for most, if not the entire show, which can get tiring sometimes. But, I was able to stumble through by talking about me and talking about some news stories from the past week. So, if you weren't able to catch the show live, I encourage you to listen to the show in the player above. Or, just download the show here and listen anytime. Thanks so much!
