Show 96 Preview

I've heard for a lot of people over the past few days that this is the completely wrong week to have a show because this is the week where all of the most popular TV shows will be having their season finales. Oh well, there's got to be some people out there who will not be watching, right? hehe

Anyway, I'd like to invite you to the next episode of The Doctor Anonymous Show which will be Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio. I do not have a scheduled guest this week, but I will be talking about some of my favorite news stories of the week. There are just so many that I haven't decided what my list of stories will be this week.

If you haven't checked it out lately, I encourage you to click on over to the Facebook fan page for the show. Over there, you will see some exclusive videos that I have not posted to the blog - some of it kind of funny stuff. Also, if you enjoy the show, I encourage you to click here to see my iTunes page and possibly subscribe to the show. The video post above also talks about this week's show. Hope to see you for the show!

Dr. A Show 94: Face Transplant

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

We're talking medicine & health news stories on this week's Doctor Anonymous Show. Probably the most interesting medical news story this week has to do with Connie Culp who revealed herself during a press conference that she was the recipient of the first face transplant in the US which occurred almost 6 months ago. Our good friend Ramona also wrote a post about this event this week.

In other news, there was also a story about a double hand transplant in Georgia. I'll also share an interesting story about the swine/H1N1 flu and even share an interesting blog post about medical apps on the iPhone. If there is any time left, I'll also share some more thoughts on my recent trip to Chicago. Have you seen the latest videos? They are over on my Facebook Fan Page. (Also check out the fabulous new promo for the show above)

Thanks to all of you who checked out last week's show talking about the swine flu. As you can see from the graphic below, the show was the third most popular show in the health category last week - Thanks to all of you! I really appreciate it.

If you are new to the show, I encourage you to catch us live. There is a great chat room that also goes on. You can even see my shining face on the webcam. In addition, you can call into the show to say hello. Can't catch us live? That's ok. You can listen anytime after the show as it is saved as a podcast so you can listen later.

Video: On the road to Chicago

So, I'm finally piecing together some of the video that was recorded during my recent trip to Chicago. The video above is the first installment. This is day one and the first segment of this video is the beginning of my day as I go to the hospital even before I officially get on the road for my journey. This video ends with some thoughts as I get to my first destination. More to come. Enjoy!

Show 93 Wrap-up

Thanks to Angelo Mandato for coming on the first part of Show 93 to talk about Podcamp Ohio 2. It's hard to believe that it's only about 50 days away now. Angelo updated us on the planning process as well as talking about the sponsors for the event. We also talked about registration and encouraged attendees to also present a session at Podcamp this year. Sorry Angelo for cutting your time this evening for our 2nd topic....

For the bulk of the rest of the show, I thought it would be interesting to talk about what's going on with the swine flu. Apparently, we can't call it that anymore in favor of the en vogue term "H1N1 virus." Oh well. I gave just a little bit of clinical information. And, then there was a call from California - a health professional on the ground there. He shared his theory (which I agree with) as far as why the media is making a bigger story of this than it really should.

Then, I got two prank callers in a row. Want to see how I dealt with them? Well, you'll just have to listen to the show in the player above or download the show here and listen whenever you like. I also played you tube clips from a swine flu vaccine (from 30 years ago), from an amusing public service announcement "song," and finally a clip of what the vice president said today about traveling. Sunny also called in to share some thoughts about this situation. Sunny was trained as a nurse and lives in Texas.

Finally to close the show, I shared a little bit about my experience in Chicago last week during my conference and during my time with Annie & Burl - and also Kim. I think that I may expand on this a little more during the May Dr. A shows - we'll see. Following the BTR show this evening, I did a little post show on ustream. Those are always fun! But, now, it's time for bed. Have a great weekend everybody!

Dr. A Show 93: Swine Flu

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

On this week's Doctor Anonymous Show, we will be talking about Podcamp Ohio 2 which will be taking place on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio. In checking out their website, it looks like the registration has been going well. There are already about 130 registrants. In addition, the number of sessions is continuing to grow as well. I know what you're going to say. I haven't registered for either yet. Yeesh! I'll get around to it eventually - hehe. (Oh, by the way, did you see how close I am to 2000 twitter followers? Maybe you can help me go over the top lol)

Of course, the major medicine/health news story this week is the swine flu. I've heard a lot of questions at the office and around town about it. As I've been catching up on my blog reading, I've seen that our buddy KevinMD has been using a live blogging service to do a little Q&A on his site. And, people like Enoch Choi have also been doing some web based Q&A. What do you think of that? If there is time on the show, I'll talk about these topics as well.

Update: What a difference a few hours makes. In just the past few hours before show time, I received a lot of questions about my observations on the swine flu and the media response to this. So, in order to be responsive to you the Dr. A reader and listener to the podcast, I have changed the title of this evening's show. We'll still talk about Podcamp Ohio first, but then, I'll leave a lot more time to talk about the swine flu this evening. Hope you can join the show live!

Chicago Wrap-up

Just got home last night from the great city of Chicago. Officially, I was at the American College of Physician Executives for their Physicians in Management course. Maybe at some future Dr. A Show, I should really share some of the information that I learned there. It's no secret that docs don't get much (if any) formal business or management training in medical school or residency. And, I have definitely do have an interest in these type of issues. So, maybe at some future point, I'll share some of this info.

Above, there are a few links to the fun parts of my week in Chicago. First, check out the video post above from our buddy Kim who flew in from Seattle to hang out with our friends Annie and Burl. I also did two of my live internet radio shows from Chicago - specifically from the luxurious studios of Annie and Burl. In addition to the players above and below, you can download the shows as well for Dr. A Show 91 and the Night Shift show.

Now, that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should devote some time on a future Doctor Anonymous Show on my impressions of the business stuff and the fun stuff that happened in Chicago. That's a great idea. I'm a genius! Hehe - Hope you're having a great week!

Show 93 Preview

This week, The Doctor Anonymous Show welcomes back our friends from Podcamp Ohio which will be Saturday, June 20th, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio. Especially if you are anywhere in the midwestern United States, I encourage you to consider attending this year's event. (Also check out the video post above which I recorded in downtown Chicago)

There are already 224 people registered for the event - Wow, that's amazing. And, as far as the last count, there are about 17 sessions that have been registered. Thinking about registering for the event or presenting a session, don't think about it anymore- just do it!

So, join us on Thursday, April 30th, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time on BlogTalkRadio for the next exciting edition of The Doctor Anonymous Show. If there is time at the end of this week's show, I'll talk about my time in Chicago last week. See you for the show!

Dr. A Show 91: Chicago

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 at 9pm Eastern Time

Join us this week for a very special Doctor Anonymous Show live from Chicago, Illinois. I'll be broadcasting from the fabulous Annie and Burl Live Studios - so if you watch/listen live, you'll definitely notice different surroundings from what you're accustomed to on the webcam.

I'm going to say this from the outset that this show will probably not be too medical. But, it will be a lot of fun! In addition to some current news stories, we'll be talking with Annie and Burl about their very popular show on BlogTalkRadio. I'll also be joined by our friend Kim from the blog As The Pump Turns. Kim flew in from Seattle to join the fun. How many people can that studio hold? Watch live and find out!

As you can see in the video above, I have been a part of a radio soap opera on the ABL show. I play a doctor on the soap - naturally. And, in this soap, you'll probably see a side of me that you haven't seen before - hopefully funny! The season finale of the soap opera will be Saturday night on the ABL show.
