BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, September 18th, 2008 at 9:00pm Eastern Time

Join us tonight for The Doctor Anonymous Show number 49 (see video above). Our scheduled guest will be the famous nurse blogger Kim from the famous blog called Emergiblog.

She's going to be participating at the BlogWorld Expo which will be in Las Vegas this weekend. Through Kim's efforts, new media medicine is getting set up to make a presence at BlogWorld Expo not only this year but in years to come. Dr. Val will also be attending this gathering this weekend in Vegas. Are you in new media medicine and attending Blog World? Call in and tell us about it!

If you do listen live, you can even take part in the chat room. It is truly "The show within the show." You can even call in and say hello. A great opportunity to interact with medbloggers you've only read about. And, you will be able to see me on the live webcam during the show! See you tonight!

For first time Blog Talk Radio listeners:
*Although it is not required to listen to the show, I encourage you to register on the BlogTalkRadio site prior to the show. I think it will make the process easier.

*To get to my show site, click here. As show time gets closer, keep hitting "refresh" on your browser until you see the "Click to Listen" button. Then, of course, press the "Click to Listen" button.

*You can also participate in the live chat room before, during, and after the show. Look for the "Chat Available" button in the upper right hand corner of the page. If you are registered with the BTR site, your registered name and picture will appear in the chat room.

*You can also call into the show. The number is on my show site. I'll start taking calls about halfway into the show. There is also a "Click To Talk" feature where you do not need a phone to call into the show - only a microphone headset. Hope these tips are helpful!

House Season 5

As I talked about last week on The Doctor Anonymous Show, I'm joining a podcast talking about House, MD. The season 5 premiere is on Tuesday night and I'm really looking forward to it. In the video clip above, there is a preview of the premiere show. Of course, there doesn't seem to be a lot of clues of what's going to happen.

The Differential Podcast is the fan podcast talking about House, MD. If you haven't checked it out yet, I encourage you to check out their website. They have bios on all the co-hosts. And, I will be giving a "medical consult" every week on the relevant medical plotlines in the weekly show. So, if you haven't already, remember to check out the TV show, and then check out the podcast when it's released (if for anything else to listen to me - hehe).

MedPiano now video posting!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you already know that I'm very excited that another member of the new media medicine family is now trying out video posting. Above, you see our friend MedPiano and not only is be back blogging after a little break, he is trying out video posting. Great job with this! I encourage everyone (yes you!) to at least try out a video posting site. Of course, you know my preference is viddler, but try out anyone that you would like. It'll be fun!

Night Without Power

Finally finished with my weekend on call. It's not that it was too, too busy. Just happy to get another weekend on call out of the way. As you can see in the video above, Sunday night was kind of an adventure, because the power went out last night. Now, don't get me wrong, around here, we did not even get the damage that occurred down south from hurricane ike. However, for around here, this is the highest sustained wind gusts that we have had in a while.

Before the power went out at home last night, I was reading some twitters which said that thousands of people on Ohio were without power. And, still this morning, throughout the Buckeye state, many people are still without power, and thoughts that things may not be up and running for as long as seven days - yeesh.

Anyway, when the power was flickering on and off last night - and then subsequently stayed off, what was the first thing that I thought of. That's right - Why not make a video to share with all of my new media friends. And, yes, Kb was right in that this video has the feel of Blair Witch.

On the technology front, I was still checking my twitters via my iPhone even with all electricity and wired internet out - because that's the guy I am - constantly staying connected with all of you - because I care. Emergiblog was even encouraging me to get a battery powered modem (what's up with that? hehe) Anyway, enjoy the video. And, for those of you in Ohio, how's it going? Do you still have power outages and internet interruption? Are you reading this from your iPhone? Let me know!

Show 48 Wrap-up

Thanks so much to my guests Travis and Rae on The Doctor Anonymous Show 48. They are co-hosts on The Differential podcast which is a fan podcast about the TV show House, MD. We talked about possible spoilers for the Season 5 Premiere which will be Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 at 8pm eastern time on the Fox television network.

We also talked about the website which has discussion forums, sign-up for a newsletter, and a poll asking who is your favorite character on the show. They also have a my space page. Rae also said that this is the only podcast out there whose main purpose is a House, MD fan podcast (that's exciting). Thanks again for being on the show, and I'm excited to be a part of this project.

I closed out the show by sharing thoughts concerning September 11, 2001. I told myself that if I ever was able to have a blog and possibly a show - that I would talk about things important to me - like that day. I talked about The National Anthem in a post back on September 6th, 2006. So, for tonight's show, I shared some thoughts about what is a significant day for me. I hope everyone has a great weekend (I'm on call, ugh). Talk to you soon!

Update: Here is a video post from Crzegrl about September 11th. I think it speaks for itself. Well done, Emily.

BlogTalkRadio Listen Live

Thursday, September 11th, 2008 at 9:30pm Eastern Time
(Note the different starting time)

Join us tonight for The Doctor Anonymous Show number 48. Our scheduled guest will be Travis from The Differential podcast which is a fan podcast for the TV show "House, MD." If you haven't heard already, I have been asked to be a medical consultant to the fan podcast (which I am very excited about). Later on tonight's show, I may share thoughts about 9/11/2001.

If you do listen live, you can even take part in the chat room. It is truly "The show within the show." You can even call in and say hello. A great opportunity to interact with medbloggers you've only read about. And, you will be able to see me on the live webcam during the show! See you tonight!

Busy Week

Ever feel like everything is closing in around you? Ever feel like you're barely treading water? Well, that explains my life over the past week or so. I apologize in advance for any whininess that may come out in this post. It's just that I have not been very good with the time management this week.

Why is that? Well, my schedule has just been overbooked. Almost each morning this week, I have a 7am meeting at the hospital for one reason or another. These morning meetings always go over time, and then, I'm not able to round on my patients at the hospital. So, what I do is already run late a little bit for the morning patients, and then try to get back to the hospital during my "lunch break" to try to get to see some people.

And, then, get back to the office by 1pm to try to start my afternoon on time. If I didn't finish my rounds, then I have to try to budget some time after the office to head back to the hospital to finish up. The tricky thing this week is that I've had an evening meeting on one night and a soccer game on the other night. Each night this week, I've been back at the office until about midnight just to try to catch up.

Is that whiney yet? Well, how about this. I really haven't been able to keep up with twitter following (let alone twitter posting). I haven't had a chance to record, edit, and post any kind of video promo for this weeks show. And, oh yeah, that sleep thing has been in deprivation this week as well. I really should go to sleep now and try to get some rest.

Finally, I'm debating on whether to talk about anything related to 9/11/2001 on this week's show. Political discourse is not the point. I just was thinking about sharing where I was, what was I doing, and other random thoughts. It may drive people away from the show. But, at some point, I was looking for an opportunity to share this stuff, and maybe this week's show is the time and place to do that. We'll see...

Thanks Facebook

So, I tried to log into my Facebook account this morning. And, when I tried to do that, I learned that my "Docteur Incognito" account was disabled and deleted. When I tried to find out more information, I obtained the following message.

Why was my account disabled?

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebook’s Terms of Use, to which you agreed when you first registered for an account on the site. Accounts can either be disabled for repeat offenses or for one, particularly egregious violation.

Facebook does not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations.

We do not allow users to send unsolicited or harassing messages to people they don’t know, and we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity.

Our Code of Conduct outlines the types of content we do not allow on the site. This includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people.

So, naturally, I'm bummed out about that. But, honestly, I really wasn't using Facebook that much anyway. People constantly asking me to put applications on my profile and the rest of the facebook blah, blah, blah. See ya facebook.

New Video Posts: SixUntilMe & Crzegrl

As all of you know, I enjoy seeing more and more medbloggers utilize video. We Talked about SixUntilMe last week. Well, now she has a new video post entitled "Diabetes and Old School Support." As usual, a lot of great comments over there. I encourage you to check it out. (Also check out the video post below)

Then, I was pleasantly surprised to find that our most recent guest on The Doctor Anonymous Show, Crzegrl, also has ventured into the area of video posting. She alluded to it on her appearance on Show 47 this past week. Great job with this! I'm looking forward to seeing more vidposts in the future! (Check out the video post below)
